There’s something undeniably compelling about a space that knows exactly what it’s meant to do. At the Tec de Monterrey, the auditorium becomes a vessel for precision — where every surface, shadow, and edge participates in shaping how the room behaves.
A Wall That Works Like a Facet
The visual anchor of the room is the wall — or better said, a surface of moving geometry. Built entirely from acoustic PET panels, the wall is composed of hexagonal modules that change depth and direction as they expand. Some are flat, some bevelled, others project. The pattern is a 3D matrix that breaks sound reflections with measured irregularity.

What makes this installation unique is the fusion of two techniques: engravings etched directly into the panels interlock with the dimensional modules, merging flat and volumetric acoustics into one continuous skin. This layering is both precise and sculptural — a controlled play of light, shadow and silence.
Lighting That Carries the Line
Threaded between the edges of these panels runs a sharp, embedded LED lighting system, designed to follow the outline of the composition. This isn’t just accent lighting — it reinforces the geometry. The backlit edges trace the folds and intersections, giving the illusion that the wall is shifting, folding in on itself — a glowing origami of sound.

The lighting is not ornamental, it is architectural — an element that supports the panels’ contours while offering quiet visual orientation in a darkened space.
Darkness and Color in Contrast
The installation relies on a deep color palette: black, oxford, custom made copper and soft grey, all carefully balanced. The orange-hued modules draw the eye with warmth and dimension, while the darker sections ground the space, creating acoustic balance and visual contrast — a design that modulates attention and controls reverberation.

At Tec de Monterrey, acoustic design doesn’t sit in the background. It’s built into the architecture with intention — using geometry, texture, and light to shape performance and presence.
